Dr. Sherell M. Fuller, Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at North Carolina A&T State University, brings over two decades of dedicated experience in the field of education. Her journey began as a passionate elementary and middle school teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia, where she made significant contributions as a 4th-grade general education teacher and a 7th/8th-grade English teacher. She is a native of Martinsville, VA and received her B.A. in English from George Mason University. Her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction was also conferred at George Mason. She received her Ph.D. in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia.

Transitioning into higher education, Dr. Fuller spent nine years at UNC Charlotte, where she served in multiple roles, including Assistant Professor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Teacher Education Learning Community Coordinator, and Campus Liaison for the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program. During her time there, she supported new and future teachers, restructured coursework, and helped build a strong sense of community among students. Her teaching and mentoring were recognized with several awards from both students and colleagues, including the UNC Charlotte College of Education Excellence in Teaching Award and the Dr. Mary Harper Outstanding Faculty Award from the Black Student Union.

After UNC Charlotte, Dr. Fuller joined Winthrop University as an Assistant Professor of Education and Director of the South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. Over nine years, she worked closely with students preparing to teach in South Carolina and helped expand the Teaching Fellows Program into one of the largest and most active in the state. Her work there also earned her the Winthrop University Faculty Student Affairs Award and the NC Teaching Fellows Undergraduate Teaching Award, recognizing her deep commitment to students’ growth as future educators.

Following her time at Winthrop, she served as the Senior Director of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at High Point University. In this role, she led efforts to create a more inclusive campus climate, introducing initiatives such as Implicit Bias training for Campus Police and organizing programs to support a sense of belonging for underrepresented students. She was honored by students with the Umoja Award from the university’s Black Student Union for her work in equity and inclusion.

Throughout her career, Dr. Fuller has remained focused on preparing teachers and faculty to work effectively with diverse populations. She has helped design new courses, revised programs to better reflect culturally responsive practices, and led professional development for both K–12 and higher education audiences. She is a certified facilitator in a wide range of areas including LGBTQ+ Safe Zones, Addressing Implicit Bias, Microaggressions, Anti-Racism, Intersectionality, Gender Equity, and Disability Justice. She has also completed training through ACUE and the Truist Leadership Institute to support effective and inclusive teaching.

In addition to her role in faculty development, Dr. Fuller is an experienced motivational and educational speaker who inspires audiences with her expertise in equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. She also consults on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in education, supports efforts to recruit underrepresented populations into the teaching profession, and continues to mentor both pre-service and in-service teachers. Even in her current administrative role, Dr. Fuller remains grounded in the classroom, focusing on teaching and learning and inclusivity, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to education and community.

She actively participates in various professional and community organizations, including 1st Vice President of the High Point Chapter of NAACP, the League of Women Voters of the Triad, YWCA of High Point Board Member, High Point 2045 Comprehensive Plan Implementation Task Force, the HBCU Faculty Development Network, the UNC Faculty and Academic Development Consortium, and the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network in Higher Education.

In her free time, Dr. Fuller enjoys singing, watching TV, reading, and is active in music ministry. She is a 33-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and currently resides in High Point, NC.
