NC NAACP Condemns Supreme Court Ruling Undermining Voting Rights

RALEIGH, NC – In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, NAACP North Carolina President Deborah Dicks Maxwell, issued the following statement:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a devastating setback for voting rights and a clear threat to our democracy. By weakening the Voting Rights Act, the Court has once again turned its back on Black voters and opened the door for politicians who seek to silence entire communities for political gain.

In North Carolina, we have seen the real and harmful consequences of voter suppression, and this decision will only embolden those efforts. But this fight is not over. When the courts fail the people, the people must respond.

Our power remains at the ballot box. We will organize, mobilize, and turn out voters to protect our communities and elect leaders who believe in fair representation and justice. Our democracy is under attack, and we will not be silent.”
