NAACP NORTH CAROLINA MOURNS THE PASSING OF President Chester B. Williams of Halifax County

RALEIGH, NC-The NAACP North Carolina State Conference  is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of President Chester B. Williams of Halifax County, a devoted advocate, educator, and community leader whose life’s work uplifted countless young people and families across rural North Carolina. President Williams dedicated his career to expanding opportunity, advancing health and education equity, and strengthening the communities he so passionately served. His leadership with A Better Chance A Better Community (ABC2) and his unwavering commitment to empowering youth reflect a legacy rooted in service, innovation, and love for his hometown of Enfield.

President Williams’ passing is a profound loss to the Halifax community and to the broader movement for justice across our state. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his extraordinary work and generous spirit.


President Deborah D. Maxwell reflected on his legacy, noting that “President Chester Williams embodied the very best of servant leadership. He dedicated his life to creating pathways of opportunity for young people and championing healthier, more resilient communities across rural North Carolina. His vision, his energy, and his compassion transformed lives, and his impact will continue to be felt for generations.”
