RALEIGH, NC – The NAACP North Carolina State Conference is deeply saddened to announce the passing of former state president and longtime lawmaker, Representative Kelly Alexander, Jr. His legacy as a trailblazing civil rights leader and tireless advocate for justice will forever remain an integral part of North Carolina’s history.
Former President Kelly Alexander Jr. served not only as a steadfast representative of Charlotte for over 15 years but also as a guiding force within the NAACP, where he led the North Carolina State Conference and served on the national board of directors. His relentless fight for equality and his unwavering dedication to civil rights have left a lasting imprint on our state and nation.
In reflecting on his passing, President Deborah Dicks Maxwell of the NAACP North Carolina State Conference issued the following statement:
“Today, we mourn the loss of one of our greatest leaders, NAACP North Carolina Former President Kelly Alexander Jr. His contributions to the civil rights movement in North Carolina and beyond are immeasurable. Kelly Alexander was a champion for justice, a voice for the voiceless, and an unwavering advocate for equality.
From his work in the legislature to his leadership within the NAACP, his impact will be felt for generations to come. The entire state of North Carolina has lost a beacon of light, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all to push forward in the fight for justice and equality.
