Resolution Opposing North Carolina House Bill 304

Resolution Opposing North Carolina House Bill 304

WHEREAS, the North Carolina NAACP is committed to protecting the voting rights of all North Carolinians and ensuring that every voice is heard in our democracy; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly has introduced H.B. 304, the “Election Day Integrity Act,” which would impose new and unnecessary restrictions on voting in our state; and
WHEREAS, H.B. 304 would limit access to early voting and absentee voting, require stricter voter ID requirements, and restrict the ability of election officials to conduct necessary outreach and education efforts; and
WHEREAS, these provisions would disproportionately impact communities of color, low-income voters, elderly voters, voters with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the right to vote is a fundamental pillar of our democracy, and efforts to restrict that right must be strongly opposed.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the North Carolina NAACP expresses its strong opposition to H.B. 304, the “Election Day Integrity Act,” and calls on the North Carolina General Assembly to reject this harmful and unnecessary legislation; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the North Carolina NAACP calls on all NAACP units to stand together in defense of voting rights and to demand that North Carolina elected officials work to expand access to the ballot, rather than restrict it.
